Gary Suarez is a freelance journalist and music critic born, raised, and based in New York City. He founded the hip-hop media brand Cabbages in January 2020, beginning as a newsletter and expanding to include a namesake podcast later that same year. In 2021, he launched the Cabbages Podcast Network for additional audio programs produced by him.

Over the past two decades, his writing has appeared at various outlets including Billboard, Complex, Consequence Of Sound, Crack, Deadspin, Entertainment Weekly, The Face, Four Pins, Forbes, The Guardian, High Times, Level, The New York Times, NPR, Pitchfork, The Quietus, Remezcla, Rolling Stone, Vibe, Vice, and Vulture, among others.

Gary served as guest editor for ‘Best Damn Hip Hop Writing 2018’ (Superchamp Books) and contributed to ‘100 Albums You Need in Your Collection’ (Abrams / Vinyl Me Please). He has also written liner notes for vinyl reissues of such albums as Gravediggaz’s 6 Feet Deep and Willie Bobo’s Uno Dos Tres 1•2•3.
